12.7.2011 - NEW HANDMADE MUSIC VIDEO

Nearly a year ago, I wrote a song while at a songwriter’s conference in Cape May, New Jersey. I recorded a quiet demo version on my phone for fear of my hotel neighbors getting disgruntled.

Before I left for the UK. I decided to film my travels all over NYC, England, Scotland, and Wales. Since I’ve gotten back I’ve reviewed and edited several hours worth of footage. Today, I’m proud to release the completed video and share it with you.

The audio is taken from my performance at Castoro Cellars in Paso Robles, California, benefiting Escuela del Rio. Escuela del Rio, as you recall, is the charity organization with which I’m donating 10% of all of my proceeds.

You want to feel a sense of expansion and growth in the evolution of an artist's repertoire, and fiery-haired Delaney Gibson hits the mark on her sophomore release, Hurricanes and Forget Me Nots. Ten heavy hitting melodic empires cover vast ground on yet another well-polished studio exhibition. Gibson's sweet and soaring vocals strike deeper, more soulfully than ever before. She exudes sensuality and purpose, and proves to us yet again of her melody making genius.

Gretsch in hand and gemstone boots in tow, this album is a mix of moonshine and cosmos, barnyard banjos and pop/rock symphonies. In "A better Version of Me" Gibson croons "I'm getting back to my roots/hanging up my heels for some cowboy boots." One can surely feel a difference those cowboy boots make on songs like "Rain or Shine," a solemn country duet that

Willie Nelson and Co. would surely raise a glass to.

Then we have songs like "Paper Boats," which set us sailing with bombastic emotional power choruses radiating through the speakers - a song top forty radio would surely grasp onto, or "La Di Da," which hints at Lilly Allen perkiness. You wouldn't think the mix of these two styles would lend to easy listening throughout the album, but somehow it works. Perhaps it's the ever-present banjo plucking in the background, even on the pop/rock ballads behind the power chords of the electric guitars. Or maybe it's Gibson's heart-wrenching piano pulsing aside a wailing fiddle...whatever the formula may be, it proves to perk the interest of the listener and reel them in for the ride.

With each listen I find another song I think might be my favorite (a good sign), but I always find myself veering back to the melancholy ballads that Gibson does so convincingly well. The aforementioned "Rain or Shine" secures my top pick, featuring John Bartholomew's dreamy vocals exchanging sad little sonnets of love gone awry with Gibson. Next up is "Kill Me Now," which plays like a lullaby with a broken-hearted twist. The folky acoustic guitar strums aside Gibson's vocals in charmed company, and the symphonic onslaught of strings wafts through the background painting a landscape Bob Ross could only dream of.

Gibson's status of Pop Maven remains unchanged. She can write a catchy hook like the best of them and proof of this talent plays out in every note. Through artistic and emotional growth, Gibson conjures up her adventurous side while managing to stay within the realm of that which has come to define her. There have been a lot of natural disasters this past year, but Hurricanes and Forget Me Nots isn't one of them.

I'm starting to see the positive effects of getting my song placed on a television show!  Yeah, the royalties are nice but, I'm gaining exposure on a greater level than I could have ever hoped for!  TV really is the new Radio.

TEN songs | ONE year | ZERO limits

It’s a new year and a new decade so why are we doing the same old thing? This year I am going to try something a little different!  I always want to keep creating music but, instead of going back into the studio to record a 3rd album this year, I am releasing TEN songs in 2010!

Each will be a unique moment in time. Quirky, sad, joyous, tawdry, funny, who knows! Whatever life throws at me I’m going to share with you, in real time. Stay tuned… It’s going to be a crazy year!

I will be releasing the first song “So Help Me Jesus (Last Valentines)” February 14th, 2010 on Valentines Day! It’s a quirky little country/folk song about love gone wrong and a few strong warnings for a certain boy!  It’s not for the easily offended :)

You will be able to download the songs right here on my website and then at the end of the year I’ll have them up on iTunes in a TEN in 2010 compilation album!

Oxnard's Delaney Gibson to celebrate 'Hurricanes' release Saturday in Ventura

So much for the sophomore jinx: Local singer-songwriter Delaney Gibson has hit it out of the park on her second album, “Hurricanes and Forget-Me-Nots,” a love-lousy album of enduring and endearing heartache in a pretty package, all propelled by that wonderful voice. Gibson is set to share it all — except a burger — at her CD release party Saturday night at My Florist Café & Bakery in Ventura.

Often after a band comes out of nowhere with a great debut album — they’ve had their whole lives to work on it — the second comes with pressure and a deadline; not so for Gibson. Usually a girl with a keyboard when she plays locally, this time Gibson will front a whole band of local all-stars to make this one come to life.

A couple of members of Army of Freshmen came to one of Gibson’s gigs last winter and before she could say, “I don’t even remember his name,” she was making a new album and now she wants you to buy a copy. B. Willing of Shades of Day will open. The lady in question supplied the following answers:

So big CD party coming up — are you all excited?
Yeah. I’m actually ecstatic, yeah!

What’s your take on this one compared to the first one?
It’s a whole new thing. It was a whirlwind recording process and a whirlwind time of my life, so...

After searching for the perfect venue we finally found it last night!  My Florist Cafe & Bar is absolutely beautiful!  It has a big enough stage for the band and even a grand piano!  They have wonderful food and a full bar too!  I really hope you will save the date and join me to celebrate the release of my new album "Hurricanes and Forget Me Nots."

I am officially announcing the name of my second album... insert drum roll... :)

"HURRICANES AND FORGET ME NOTS"

Legend has it that in medieval times, a knight and his lady were walking along the side of a river. He picked a posy of flowers, but because of the weight of his armor he fell into the river. As he was drowning he threw the posy to his loved one and shouted "Forget-me-not". This is a flower connected with romance and tragic fate.

I wrote all the music for this record in one month.  We captured a whirlwind and tumultuous time in my life full of unrequited love, strength and hope.  Something I think we can all relate to.

I couldn't be more excited about this record. I cannot wait to share it with you. It really is my whole heart laid out in ten songs :)

Damn! Just as virtually every musical expectation across this music-dude's board was sunk lower that a well-digger's ass after watching the parade of haircuts that was this years' AMAs, along comes the best freakin' album of the year.

Ventura-based singer/songwriter Delaney Gibson has a lot to explain about her debut album The Worst Kind of Way. With the powerhouse voice and musical sensibility the likes of an Alanis Morisette or Melissa Etheridge, Gibson tears up every single song here, from the soaring highs of "I'm Alive" to a new personal fav — and one of the best songs of the year — "I Think I have OCD".

Not only is she a great singer and musician, she's also apparently free of all the crap many of today's "artists" are guilty of (one of which is calling themselves "artists"— remember when artists pretty much just did paintings and sculptures?). Every song here rolls into the next — not a damn thing is wasted. You want dark? The title track "Worst Kind of Way" could hold up against any Tom Waits tune. You want a ballad? "Push" is every romantic's anthem.

Really, this album is just that good, in fact you should just stop reading this and go to here myspace page and start listening (you can also buy a copy there).

Great music isn't always about haircuts, pretty faces and expensive wardrobes (can you say Jonas Brothers? That's our future, fellow babies (vapid 15-year olds with pouty faces and too much eyeliner?) — sometimes it's actually having and nurturing real talent, and Delaney Gibson is an incredible talent, in absolutely the best kind of way. — Brandon Whitehead (posted 12/05/08)

Delaney Gibson is a singer and pianist whose powerful voice has shades of Jewel at her best. Her debut album is a polished and accomplished effort.

The title track has some dynamic piano playing and a filmic atmosphere that brings out the best in the singer’s voice.

Happenstance is a neat song with a melody that’s instantly likable and a strong vocal.

In Your Head is a strong song with a radio friendly but rockin’ sound that shows that Gibson can write what sounds like a hit.

Champagne and Cyanide is a soft song with a smart lyric. It’s a lovely debut that should provide Gibson with many fans.

Delaney was chosen to sing in San Diego's newest professional vocal ensemble "Sacra/Profana" for their 2008/2009 preview season! This is a very prestigious group lead by Krishan Oberoi, who received his Master's in Choral Conducting from Yale School of Music.

Last night, Delaney was honored by receiving 2007 MAVRIC awards for Best EP, Best Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song - Cruel & Beautiful, and Best Alternative Song - Push. She was also lucky enough to be able to perform the title track from her upcoming full length album, "The Worst Kind of Way," with none other than Nathan McEuen!
