"If this record doesn’t bring Gibson to the forefront of the singer-songwriter circuit, the genre should be re-examined — songs like these with a voice like hers are rare."
The Ventura County Reporter

"The performances are magical in their perfection, and the songs sound as if they were born out of the inner circle of Nashville's elite songwriting circuit."
The San Diego Troubadour

"A torch singer with bite…she will have you laughing, crying and singing along when you least expect it."
www.radioojai.com

"Gibson has a set of chops that border on country crooner. (Think about mixing Christina Aguilera’s chops and Jenny Lewis’s bashfully endearing delivery and you get the idea.) A blend of piano based pop and sultry edginess makes Delaney Gibson the real deal.”
The Santa Barbara Independent

"Delaney Gibson has hit it out of the park on her second album, “Hurricanes and Forget-Me-Nots!"
Ventura County Star

03.09.10 - CD REVIEW ON THE MUSE'S MUSE

Thank you so very much to Don Sechelski and The Muse's Muse for reviewing my new CD Hurricanes and Forget Me Nots!

"...Delaney Gibson is back with a strong follow up to her debut album, The Worst Kind Of Way. Hurricanes And Forget Me Nots shows that the excellence of her first album was no fluke. Gibson's remarkable voice shines again...

Hurricanes And Forget Me Nots is filled with musical gems. Good Company,Careful, the list goes on. Delaney's songwriting is in top form, the band is impressively tight, the arrangements and production are sterling, and Gibson's voice is the glue that holds it altogether. When I reviewed her first album, I said that Delaney Gibson was a star on the rise, a voice to be reckoned with. I'm convinced beyond any doubt."

02.22.2010 - THE GOOD BEHIND REALITY TELEVISION

I'm starting to see the positive effects of getting my song placed on a television show!  Yeah, the royalties are nice but, I'm gaining exposure on a greater level than I could have ever hoped for!  TV really is the new Radio.

Here is a very sweet blog written by Erin Everhart after she heard my song "La Di Da" on The Bad Girls Club

"...You just can’t look away, no matter how revolting the image is.

But on one particular Tuesday, something good, other than my satisfaction at the end of the hour, came out of this train wreck: I found a new artist. The lyrics that hooked me?

“You look like a casualty, but baby that’s okay with me
I’ve always been attracted to natural disasters.”

I spent near 45 minutes sifting through search results trying to find the owner of those lyrics (something I do quite often) and once the mystery was solved — Delaney Gibson — I immediately bought the CD on iTunes (something I rarely do: blame Limewire)..."  READ FULL BLOG

TEN songs | ONE year | ZERO limits

It’s a new year and a new decade so why are we doing the same old thing? This year I am going to try something a little different!  I always want to keep creating music but, instead of going back into the studio to record a 3rd album this year, I am releasing TEN songs in 2010!

Each will be a unique moment in time. Quirky, sad, joyous, tawdry, funny, who knows! Whatever life throws at me I’m going to share with you, in real time. Stay tuned… It’s going to be a crazy year!

I will be releasing the first song “So Help Me Jesus (Last Valentines)” February 14th, 2010 on Valentines Day! It’s a quirky little country/folk song about love gone wrong and a few strong warnings for a certain boy!  It’s not for the easily offended :)

You will be able to download the songs right here on my website and then at the end of the year I’ll have them up on iTunes in a TEN in 2010 compilation album!

Until then, please tell your friends about Hurricanes and Forget Me Nots available on iTunes and my website.  I am so unbelievably proud of this album it is completely from my heart to your ears!

01.05.10 - ROCKWIRED INTERVIEW

Many thanks to Brian Lush at RockWired.com for interviewing me about my new album Hurricanes and Forget Me Nots!

LA Di DA, DELANEY GiBSON TALKS TO ROCKWIRED ABOUT HER LATEST CD HURRiCANES AND FORGET-ME-NOTS, FiNDiNG iNSPiRATiON AMiD TURMOiL AND KNOWiNG WHAT SHE WANTS AS A SONGWRiTER

It’s been a little over a year since DELANEY GIBSON released her haunting debut CD ‘THE WORST KIND OF WAY’ to critical acclaim and industry accolades. Now, with the release of ‘HURRICANES AND FORGET-ME-NOTS’, GIBSON is eager to let the world know that the rush between albums has everything to do with inspiration and nothing to do with repeating herself. The honey voiced singer songwriter has not lost her knack for crafting songs that mix misery with whimsy and wit – an unexpected approach that made her debut so memorable and her latest offering so irresistible as evidenced by the tracks ‘PAPER BOATS’, ‘KILL ME NOW’ and the effervescent ‘LA DI DA’. From falling in love to losing in love, GIBSON sings it all and does it better than anyone else that comes to mind. “With this album I think I was a lot more specific in what I wanted.” says GIBSON of toiling in the studio. “I think with the last album, I let my emotions completely dictate. The songs on this album are so emotional that I wanted to step back and go over every lyric. With every line I was like ‘can I make this lyric any better?’ On this album, I really wanted to be a great writer. I took more time with this one. But other than that, not much has changed.” (READ MORE)

11.13.09 - SUCCESS HAS A SECOND ROUND

SUCCESS HAS A SECOND ROUND
Oxnard's Delaney Gibson to celebrate 'Hurricanes' release Saturday in Ventura
By Bill Locey

So much for the sophomore jinx: Local singer-songwriter Delaney Gibson has hit it out of the park on her second album, “Hurricanes and Forget-Me-Nots,” a love-lousy album of enduring and endearing heartache in a pretty package, all propelled by that wonderful voice. Gibson is set to share it all — except a burger — at her CD release party Saturday night at My Florist Café & Bakery in Ventura.

Often after a band comes out of nowhere with a great debut album — they’ve had their whole lives to work on it — the second comes with pressure and a deadline; not so for Gibson. Usually a girl with a keyboard when she plays locally, this time Gibson will front a whole band of local all-stars to make this one come to life.

A couple of members of Army of Freshmen came to one of Gibson’s gigs last winter and before she could say, “I don’t even remember his name,” she was making a new album and now she wants you to buy a copy. B. Willing of Shades of Day will open. The lady in question supplied the following answers:

So big CD party coming up — are you all excited?

Yeah. I’m actually ecstatic, yeah!

What’s your take on this one compared to the first one?

It’s a whole new thing. It was a whirlwind recording process and a whirlwind time of my life, so...

11.12.09 - FORGET HER NOT

Please pick up a copy of the Ventura County Reporter today.  I had a great interview with Michel Cicero and she wrote some really, really, really weet and inspiring words about my new album.  I'm truly grateful for the support!

FORGET HER NOT
Ventura singer-songwriter comes into full flower on her newest record
By Michel Cicero 11/12/2009
It’s been quite a year for Delaney Gibson. Relationships began, ended and began again. Awards were given, praise rained down, and disappointment often ruled as the singer-songwriter, whom VCReporter singled out as an “artist to watch” in this year’s local music issue, rode out the highs and lows of a life thoroughly lived. But great art usually takes root in pain and sorrow. And it’s a rich mix of such, along with the occasional shower of hope and joy, that allowed her newest record, Hurricanes and Forget Me Nots, to fully reflect the breadth of her talent. While her debut record, Worst Kind of Way, didn’t fail to impress, there was something noncommittal about it — fickle, unfocused, insecure and coy, like a female on the verge of womanhood. With Hurricanes, the girl has matured, and confidence is as powerful in verse as it is in demeanor. If this record, which she wrote in one month, doesn’t bring Gibson to the forefront of the singer-songwriter circuit, the genre should be re-examined — songs like these with a voice like hers are rare, even in a saturated market. Poignant, playful, clever, feminine, heartbreaking and ultimately optimistic, Gibson shows us the strength of vulnerability, the grace in surrender and the beauty that can be culled from life’s most crushing, suffocating moments when we remain receptive despite it all.

VCReporter: The title says “drama.” Life has been challenging since your last record?
Delaney Gibson: I’m trying to be optimistic but I went through a long relationship and a short breakup. I went through a bad breakup, but the album is about someone else. Meeting someone new propelled me. It was kind of a whirlwind process. I was living on friends’ couches, trying to figure out what I was doing...

09.01.09 - PRESALE "HURRICANES AND FORGET ME NOTS"

I am officially announcing the name of my second album... insert drum roll... :)

"HURRICANES AND FORGET ME NOTS"

Legend has it that in medieval times, a knight and his lady were walking along the side of a river. He picked a posy of flowers, but because of the weight of his armor he fell into the river. As he was drowning he threw the posy to his loved one and shouted "Forget-me-not". This is a flower connected with romance and tragic fate.

I wrote all the music for this record in one month.  We captured a whirlwind and tumultuous time in my life full of unrequited love, strength and hope.  Something I think we can all relate to.

I couldn't be more excited about this record. I cannot wait to share it with you. It really is my whole heart laid out in ten songs :)

"Hurricanes and Forget me Nots" is available now for presale!

08.07.09 - ROCK IS LIFE REVIEW

Rock is Life
Written by Scott Homewood

Singer-songwriter and pianist Gibson shows her multitude of strengths on this new CD though her music will undoubtedly lead to comparisons to Tori Amos and other female singer/songwriters of that ilk, if it's noticed at all. It's unfortunate really, as the late '90's showed great promise for women musicians thanks to the Lilith Fair and the increased presence of female singer/songwriters on the radio during the tour's three-year span of influence showed the music business as a whole was ready to get behind the movement... The San Diego Troubadour
Delaney Gibson - The Worst Kind of Way
Written by Heather Janiga

I've heard rumor of the technically prophetic "hit machine" that record labels use to foretell the success/popularity a song might produce before shelling out the mega fortune needed to promote it. If this machine does exist, every song on Delaney Gibson's debut release, The Worst Kind of Way, would pass through with flying colors. There isn't a song on this album that lacks an industry-hungry hook, and the overall production and musicianship is of star quality... CONTINUE

Delaney Gibson
The Worst Kind of Way
www.myspace.com/delaneygibson

Damn! Just as virtually every musical expectation across this music-dude's board was sunk lower that a well-digger's ass after watching the parade of haircuts that was this years' AMAs, along comes the best freakin' album of the year.

Ventura-based singer/songwriter Delaney Gibson has a lot to explain about her debut album The Worst Kind of Way. With the powerhouse voice and musical sensibility the likes of an Alanis Morisette or Melissa Etheridge, Gibson tears up every single song here, from the soaring highs of "I'm Alive" to a new personal fav — and one of the best songs of the year — "I Think I have OCD".

Not only is she a great singer and musician, she's also apparently free of all the crap many of today's "artists" are guilty of (one of which is calling themselves "artists"— remember when artists pretty much just did paintings and sculptures?). Every song here rolls into the next — not a damn thing is wasted. You want dark? The title track "Worst Kind of Way" could hold up against any Tom Waits tune. You want a ballad? "Push" is every romantic's anthem.

Really, this album is just that good, in fact you should just stop reading this and go to here myspace page and start listening (you can also buy a copy there).

Great music isn't always about haircuts, pretty faces and expensive wardrobes (can you say Jonas Brothers? That's our future, fellow babies (vapid 15-year olds with pouty faces and too much eyeliner?) — sometimes it's actually having and nurturing real talent, and Delaney Gibson is an incredible talent, in absolutely the best kind of way. — Brandon Whitehead (posted 12/05/08)

12.05.08 - COLLECTED SOUNDS REVIEW

Thanks to Anna for the neat review!

Click here to check it out.

Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Delaney Gibson is a singer and pianist whose powerful voice has shades of Jewel at her best. Her debut album is a polished and accomplished effort.

The title track has some dynamic piano playing and a filmic atmosphere that brings out the best in the singer’s voice.

Happenstance is a neat song with a melody that’s instantly likable and a strong vocal.

In Your Head is a strong song with a radio friendly but rockin’ sound that shows that Gibson can write what sounds like a hit.

Champagne and Cyanide is a soft song with a smart lyric. It’s a lovely debut that should provide Gibson with many fans.

THE ONLY WAY
DELANEY GIBSON
TALKS TO ROCKWIRED
ABOUT HER DEBUT LP 'THE WORST KIND OF WAY'
DREAMING UP SONGS
AND SPENDING TWO YEARS IN THE STUDIO

INTERVIEWED BY BRIAN LUSH
Singer songwriter DELANEY GIBSON is something else! Sure, female artists who write their own music is nothing new in the modern pop landscape, but there is something that sets GIBSON apart from the rest - especially the current crop; sheer musicality. Her mastery over the piano, guitar, banjo and just about anything she puts her fingers on is intimidating and that tremendous dexterity coupled with her unforgettable songcraft find their way on the artists' debut L.P. 'THE WORST KIND OF WAY' In speaking with GIBSON, 'THE WORST..." was a two year labor of love with sessions split between producers, ANDREW SYNOWIEC and JESSE SIEBENBERG. With 'THE WORST...' GIBSON was able to come into her own as an artist and prove to everyone that the 'worst way' was the only way. " I finally thought that if my way is the worst then I don't care!" remembers GIBSON "I want to do it right. Unfortunately, I kind of came to that conclusion half way through the album so I had to go back and make things the way that I wanted them to sound. There was a lot of back tracking, but it all got to where it needed to go."(READ MORE)

CD Review:

Delaney Gibson's new CD, The Worst Kind of Way features some top level talent at its best. Gibson is an outstanding vocalist, a winner of awards around the world. Her voice is indescribably expressive and rich with a range that goes from throaty growl to sublime soaring ecstasy. Add to that her sizeable talent as a songwriter and you've got the beginnings of a great album. Now bring in LA's most in-demand studio guitarist, Andrew Synowiec, and pedal steel guru, Jesse Siebenberg to co-produce and you've got magic.

On the first cut, I'm Alive is a joyful, painful expression of survival. She plays piano and sings,

"I'm alive, I'm alive

For once in my life I can feel the rain

I can heal the pain

Through the tears I cry I can touch the sky"

The title cut, The Worst Kind of Way, features Gibson playing a quirky banjo while singing of torch song of lust and desire. And it works. My favorite cut, I Think I Have OCD, is a witty look at neurosis and love. Siebenberg's pedal steel is perfect, as usual, and Gibson's vocal is endearingly vulnerable. Throughout the CD, Synowiec's guitars and Siebenberg's assortment of dobros, lap steels and keyboards meld perfectly with a solid LA rhythm section to provide Gibson a musical backdrop to work her vocal magic.

The Worst Kind of Way is a solid effort with a lot of commercial potential. Delany Gibson is a force to be reckoned with. I expect we'll be hearing from her for a time to come.

10.08.08 - GUILTY PLEASURES FOR HUMP DAY

The Late Greats Blog Review

Guilty Pleasures For Humpday ∞ The Best Kind Of Way

Delaney Gibson is her own kind of musician. She isn’t afraid to tackle more than one genre at a time. From piano-driven pop songs to country sass to orchestrated ballads to morbid southern-gothic tales of broken hearts. Delaney is making her music without care for what the industry thinks.

Her debut album is out now: The Worst Kind Of Way. A sweet treat for fans of Jewel or candy jewelry.
